2024 CATEGORIES
All projects entered must have been completed between July 2022 – July 2024 and have real-life imagery to support the entry. Best Collaborative Arts Project (Static)
This award will recognise a traditional fine arts project that has had a measurable positive impact on the patient and staff experience within a health or care environment. Entries can include paintings, murals, light installations, sculptures etc – anything that is produced and displayed in its final state.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the item or collection
- Explain how it improves the environment and/or patient experience, particularly if meant for a specific patient or resident group
- Explain how it was produced in close collaboration with staff, patients and other stakeholders
- Give an overview of how it was delivered sustainably and within budget
- Provide feedback from stakeholders
Best Collaborative Arts Project (Performance)
This award will recognise a collaborative participatory arts project that has had a measurable positive impact on the patient and staff experience within a health or care environment. Entries can include performance art, poetry writing, music workshops, art workshops either delivered by arts groups or involving patients and residents themselves.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the project
- Explain how it improves the lives of those taking part
- Explain how it was produced in close collaboration with staff and patients
- Give an overview of how it was delivered and how it could be replicated elsewhere
- Provide feedback from stakeholders
Best Interior Design Project (Refurbishment or New Build)
This award will be presented for an outstanding internal space within a new-build or refurbishment project that enhances the overall experience of patients, staff, residents, and visitors within a health or social care setting. This can include repainting, artwork, interior design, and internal alterations.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the project or intervention
- Explain the social value of the project
- Explain how it positively impacts staff, patients, residents, and visitors
- Show clear stakeholder engagement throughout the process
- Give an overview of how it was delivered sustainably and within budget
- Include feedback from stakeholders
Best External Environment/Landscaping Project
This award will be presented for an outstanding external space that enhances the overall experience of patients, staff, and visitors. This can include external building works, landscaping, artwork, and the improvement and creation of external areas such as car parks and public access points.

ESTATES AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT CLASS
Best Carbon Reduction Initiative
This award reflects the recent challenge set by the Government for the NHS to become carbon neutral by 2040. The judges will be looking for a single initiative, or series of initiatives, that are helping to reduce energy use and an organisation’s overall carbon footprint, including, but not restricted to, energy-efficient heating and lighting solutions; waste management and recycling projects; and green transport plans. Entries can come from health or social care organisations and their industry partners.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the project and its aims
- Give evidence of the positive impact on services
- Give evidence of how this makes services more efficient
- Show collaboration and consultation with stakeholders throughout
- Show how it will impact on wider carbon reduction efforts within the organisation and more widely across the health and care sector
Estates and Facilities Team of the Year
This award recognises the efforts of estates and facilities teams, both in-house and contractors and across both public and privately-operated health and social care organisations, including hard and soft services, such as laundry, catering, cleaning, infection control; and estates functions including refurbishment, repairs, utilities, carbon reduction etc.
Entries must:
- Show a novel approach that has proved successful and which could be replicated across the sector
- Show clear proof of improvement on existing practises or services
- Show teamwork and collaboration with key stakeholders
- Explain how the work enhances the lives of staff, patients, and visitors
- Provide clear evidence of ongoing evaluation
Best Patient Safety Initiative
This award reflects the current drive to improve patient safety across health and social care settings. It will be presented to a project in either the health or social care sector that can demonstrate measurable improvements in patient outcomes or a reduction in ‘never events’ and similar problems. This can include projects relating to key issues such as reducing pressure ulcers, cutting down on healthcare associated infections, reducing falls, addressing medication errors, etc.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the project and its aims
- Show how the entry has had a significant impact on patient wellbeing and the costs associated with this
- Give evidence of how this makes services more efficient/successful

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project valued at less than £25m from the acute, primary, community healthcare sector anywhere in the UK. The judges will be looking for projects that show cleverness, innovation in design and thoughtfulness and which create a positive, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors/carers and staff.

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project for a dementia of mental health care facility which is designed to support the day-to-day living of people with mental health conditions, Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. This can include hospital-based ward refurbishments, dedicated psychiatric centres, support centres, or hospitals, both private and public; the creation of dementia-friendly public facilities; or dedicated dementia care homes within community settings. The judges reserve the right to award two separate trophies for new-build and refurbishment projects and for small and large-scale projects across both focus areas

This award will recognise a software product designed for use by patients and/or health/social care service users which helps to improve efficiencies to enhance health and wellbeing.
On a process or admin side, this can be carried out by improving back-office functions such as staff, rotas, expenses, ID authentication etc, improving estates management, enhancing cyber security, or improving knowledge and training.
On the patient-centred side, this can be carried out by improving tracking of a disease, improving access to medical services, medication adherence, general health and wellbeing, exercise or smoking cessation.

This award will reward excellence within the primary and community care sectors, as well as acute care.

Best Healthcare Software (Process, Admin or Patient Centred)
This award will recognise a software product designed for use by patients and/or health/social care service users which helps to improve efficiencies to enhance health and wellbeing.
On a process or admin side, this can be carried out by improving back-office functions such as staff, rotas, expenses, ID authentication etc, improving estates management, enhancing cyber security, or improving knowledge and training.
On the patient-centred side, this can be carried out by improving tracking of a disease, improving access to medical services, medication adherence, general health and wellbeing, exercise or smoking cessation.
Entries must
- Provide an overview of the technology and why it is different from existing products on the market
- Give a full overview of cost savings, time efficiencies and other measurable benefits

This award will recognise excellence in technology deployment within a healthcare setting.
The judges will be looking for entries which show how IT teams and their industry partners have worked together to seamlessly deploy technology so as to achieve measurable efficiencies; and how those deployments have been integrated for the benefit of staff and other users.
This award will reward excellence within the primary and community care sectors, as well as acute care.
Entries must:
- Provide an overview of the technologies and how they were deployed

- Explain how they are helping to overcome issues with interoperability

This award will recognise a digital application that enhances communications within health and social care environments.
This can include, but is not restricted to, nurse call systems, sensors and alarms, electronic wayfinding solutions, paging systems, digital appointment reminders, and telecoms systems.

FAQ
The awards are open to all private and public healthcare organisations as well as architects, contractors, designers, and suppliers of products and services. In order to qualify, the project or product must have been completed or launched between July 2022 and July 2024.
Winners are chosen by a panel of industry-leading judges.
The judges review the entries during August and meet in September to choose the winners. The winners are not announced until the awards ceremony in November.
In order to qualify, the project or product must have been completed or launched between July 2022 and July 2024. For building design and interior design/landscaping entries, the project must be fully operational. The criteria for each category can be found here

Yes! If the product fulfils the criteria for multiple categories then we encourage you to enter all categories that are relevant
Please provide a description of the project or product/service and how it meets the criteria given (maximum 500 words). The title should include the name of your brand/company and product or project. In addition, you should include details of stakeholders where applicable and you can upload image files and pdf documents to support your application (a maximum of nine documents will be accepted for review); including statements, drawings, patient feedback, and testimonials. These do not count towards your 500 words. Please ensure images are of the actual building, project, or product as CGIs will not be judged
